After being swept by the Chicago Cubs, at home, the Mets find themselves only a half game up on the Atlanta Braves for the National League East Division lead.
The Mets, at one time, led the division by 10.5 games but have hit a familiar September Swoon. New York will send Carlos Carrasco to the mound to stop the bleeding tonight in the series opener. The Right Hander is having a fine season as he is 14-6 with a 3.80 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.
At home, Carrasco is 8-2 with a 3.35 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. Carrasco gets a favorable matchup tonight as the Pirates have the 3rd highest K rate to Right Handers this season at 25%. Overall they have the highest K rate on the road in the majors, at 27%. Carlos has recorded at least 6 strikeouts in 7/14 home starts this season.
Although the Pirates have nothing to play for, they have been playing well lately. Pittsburgh is coming off a 4 game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds. They are, however, 27-45 on the road this season.
