With Alberta's regulated iGaming market launching July 13, bettors will soon have access to dozens of sportsbooks and online casinos competing with Play Alberta.

Alberta online casinos and sportsbooks are preparing for the July 13 regulated market launch.
More than 40 operators have registered for Alberta's regulated online gambling market ahead of its July 13 launch, including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and bet365.

Alberta's regulated online gambling market is set to launch on July 13, bringing dozens of new sportsbooks and online casinos into the province.

The new framework will allow private operators to compete with the government-run Play Alberta platform, following a similar model to Ontario's regulated market.

As of July 1, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis has registered 47 operators for launch, although several companies plan to operate multiple brands.

How many operators are coming to Alberta?

Alberta Minister Dale Nally has previously said as many as 70 operator sites expressed interest in entering the market, which is expected to generate C$76 million in revenue during its first year.

The current list already includes many of the biggest sportsbook and online casino brands in North America and Europe, with additional operators expected to join over time.

Which sportsbooks are launching in Alberta?

The following sportsbook brands are set to launch in Alberta on July 13:

  • bet365
  • Bet99
  • BetMGM
  • BetNova
  • BetVictor
  • Bally Bet
  • Caesars Sportsbook & Casino
  • DAZN Bet
  • DraftKings Sportsbook
  • FanDuel
  • PointsBet Canada
  • PowerPlay
  • BetRivers
  • Sports Interaction
  • theScore Bet
  • ToonieBet

The arrival of operators such as bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM should create significant competition around promotions, live betting, same-game parlays and pricing.

The online casino lineup is even larger, with dozens of brands expected to be available:

  • 888 Casino

Will more operators join Alberta?

Probably.

With around 70 operators reportedly expressing interest in Alberta and 47 already registered, the list is expected to continue growing after launch.

Ontario followed a similar trajectory, with operators continuing to enter the market well after day one.

What Alberta bettors should understand

For consumers, Alberta's launch means more choice, more competition and stronger consumer protections than previously existed in the province.

Until now, online gambling in Alberta has largely meant either Play Alberta or offshore gray market operators.

The new regulated market gives bettors and casino players access to a broader range of legal options operating under provincial oversight.

That should ultimately lead to better promotions, more product innovation and a stronger overall experience for Alberta players.
