UCLA enters the 2026-27 season as the reigning national champion after beating South Carolina 79-51 in Phoenix for the program's first NCAA title. The Bruins defend it without Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice, so the repeat case starts with a rebuilt rotation.
The usual contenders are waiting. South Carolina has reached three straight national championship games under Dawn Staley. UConn arrived at the Final Four on a 54-game winning streak before the Gamecocks ended it. USC has JuJu Watkins back from her ACL injury, and Texas, LSU, Notre Dame, and Louisville return rosters built for a deep March run.
The season follows the same shape every year: nonconference games and early-season tournaments starting in November, conference play across the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, and Big East, and then conference tournaments and March Madness. The 2027 NCAA tournament expands to 76 teams, with Selection Sunday on March 14 and the national championship on April 4.
For bettors, the college game has unique pressure points. Rosters turn over every spring through the transfer portal. Nonconference slates produce wide spreads between power programs and mid-majors. One injury in a short rotation can move a line before the market fully adjusts.
