Favorites to win the 2027 men's national championship
Michigan enters the 2026-27 season as the defending national champion after beating UConn in Indianapolis in April 2026. The current favorites are always in the top rows of the table above, which ranks each team according to its best chance of winning the 2027 championship.
Results from the previous season and returning rosters are used to calculate preseason title odds. When nonconference games against ranked opponents show which teams are prepared to compete, they can move swiftly in November and December. In March, they make another move as the NCAA Tournament seeding, conference tournament outcomes, and injuries become more apparent.
Timing is just as important as who you back because a favorite's price in November and March can be two very different bets.
College basketball futures odds and championship probabilities
The trick to March Madness futures before March is you're betting on the path before the bracket exists. In November, a college basketball futures bet asks you to project a team's chances of surviving a single-elimination tournament months before it knows its seed, its opponent, or even whether some of its key players will be healthy.
Pricing that yourself means rating every contender, projecting who each team could face in every round, and repeating that exercise as the season unfolds. Then the odds move. A starter goes down in January, a contender stumbles in conference play, or a bubble team wins its conference tournament and changes the bracket.
We built a model to play out every remaining game of the college basketball season 10,000 times, through the national championship game. Our probability is the percentage of those simulations in which each team reaches a given round. That gives you a number to compare with the sportsbook's price: when our model gives a team a higher probability than the odds imply, that's where potential value can emerge.
The model isn't predicting the future or telling you which team will win. It's estimating probabilities based on 10,000 simulated versions of the season. The table puts those probabilities next to the best available price for each market, from NCAA championship odds to Make Round of 16, so you can spot where the market and our model disagree.
Our NCAAB futures cover the title and three tournament rounds. The three favorites in each market are free, while Dimers Pro unlocks every team.
How to read our college basketball futures
Each tab covers a different market, and each row represents one team:
- Championship: The team wins the national title.
- Reach Semifinals: The team reaches the national semifinals.
- Reach Regional Finals: The team reaches a regional final.
- Make Round of 16: The team reaches the round of 16.
Every row gives you two numbers:
- Probability: Our model's estimated chance that the team reaches that round, based on 10,000 simulations of the remaining season.
- Best odds: The best available price for that team in that market across the sportsbooks and prediction markets we track, with a link to the provider.
The value comes from comparing the two. Our probability tells you how often the model gets the outcome; the odds tell you what the market is paying. When our estimated probability is higher than the probability implied by the odds, the price may be worth examining more closely. That's a value signal, not a prediction or a guarantee.
Earlier-round markets generally have shorter prices because a team needs fewer wins to get there. Reaching the Semifinals sits in the middle. You can back a team you rate highly without needing it to win the whole tournament.

What are college basketball futures bets?
College basketball futures are bets on how a team finishes the season, with the bet settling once the outcome is known rather than after a single game. The most common is the national championship outright: you back a team to win the title, and the bet pays only if it does.
Round futures let you bet on a team to reach a specific stage of the NCAA Tournament, such as the semifinals or Round of 16, without needing it to win the championship.
You can bet futures from before the season tips off in November until a team is eliminated or the title is decided. That's what makes them different from a typical game bet.
A preseason futures bet can sit open for five months, while injuries, a coaching change, conference play, and Selection Sunday can all change a team's chances. The price you take in November, though, stays fixed through all of it.

How to read NCAA basketball championship odds
College basketball national championship odds are usually American odds, and almost every team carries a plus number:
- Plus odds: The profit on a $100 bet. A team at +2500 pays $2,500 in profit, a $2,600 return.
- Minus odds: What you'd stake to make $100. A heavy favorite in Make Round of 16 at -300 needs $300 to make $100.
- Implied probability: The chance a price needs to break even. +2500 implies 3.8%, +400 implies 20%, and -300 implies 75%.
- The margin: Add the implied probabilities for every team in a market and you'll get well over 100%. The extra is the sportsbook's margin, spread across the whole field.
The odds to win the NCAA basketball championship tell you what you'd be paid. Our probability is a separate number from our model, so the table shows you where the two disagree.
Our odds calculator converts any price to its implied probability. Best odds can also come from a prediction market, where a contract priced at 20 cents implies a 20% chance, and fees and the gap between buy and sell prices stand in for a sportsbook's margin.
How our model simulates college basketball futures
Our college basketball futures come from a Monte Carlo simulation that plays out every remaining game of the season 10,000 times. This includes conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament.
The simulations produce results for how often each team wins the title, reaches the national semifinals, reaches a regional final, and makes the round of 16. A team that wins the title in 1,300 of 10,000 runs has a 13% championship probability.
Every simulated game starts from a rating for each team, built from two directions:
- Team level: An Elo-style rating from historical results, adjusted for home and away, which gives each team a stable baseline built from its results and the strength of the teams it played.
- Player level: Plus/minus per minute and aggregated performance metrics, as rolling averages over recent games and the longer run, with a team's best players weighted more heavily than its bench.
Before Selection Sunday, each run plays out the rest of the regular season and the conference tournaments, then builds a projected field, so a team's probability carries the chance it misses the tournament or draws a hard path. Once the field is set on Selection Sunday, every run uses the real bracket, from the Opening Round to the national championship game.
Our probabilities update throughout the day, every day of the season, as results, team form, and player availability change. A probability is an estimate, not a guarantee: a team at 20% to win the title misses it four times in five.
March Madness futures and odds to win the tournament
March is when college basketball futures move fastest. Conference tournament week settles the last automatic bids, and Selection Sunday turns a projected bracket into a real one, with a path for every team. A favorable draw can lift a team's odds to win March Madness before it plays a game, and our probabilities move with the bracket.
From the Opening Round on, every game is single elimination. Teams that start in the Opening Round need one more win than the rest of the field to cut down the nets, and one loss ends every futures bet on a team, in every market.
For the March Madness result probabilities on each tournament game, our College Basketball Predictions provide picks for all main betting markets for every matchup from the Opening Round to the national championship game.
When to bet on college basketball futures?
The best time to bet on college basketball futures depends. Rather than trying to pick the eventual champion months in advance, focus on four things before placing a bet:
- Compare the price with our probability: A team at +2500 implies a 3.8% chance of winning. If our model puts it at 6%, the difference is a reason to look closer, not a guarantee that the bet will win.
- Shop the price: The same team might be +2000 at one sportsbook and +2800 at another, paying 40% more profit at the better price. Best odds shows the top price we track across sportsbooks and prediction markets.
- Weigh the calendar: November futures carry months of uncertainty, with injuries, conference tournament results, and Selection Sunday all capable of shifting a team's chances and price. Waiting brings more information, but the odds may change with it.
- Count the markets: Betting on one team to win the Championship, Reach Semifinals, and Make Round of 16 means backing the same tournament run across three different markets. One upset could sink all three bets.
Intentional futures betting is about finding a price that offers value relative to the risk, not simply choosing the team most likely to win.
Compare our probabilities with the best available odds, account for the uncertainty that comes with a long tournament, and never stake more than you can afford to lose.

NCAA men's basketball futures odds can shift at several key points during the season. Three factors are worth watching:
- Regular-season form and conference tournaments: Results, injuries, player availability, and performances against ranked opponents can change a team's title outlook and projected NCAA Tournament seed. Conference tournament results can further strengthen a résumé or put a contender's chances in doubt.
- Selection Sunday and the bracket draw: The 68-team bracket reveals each team's seed, opening opponent, and potential route to the championship. A favorable draw can improve a team's title prospects, while a tougher path can push its futures odds in the opposite direction.
- Results during March Madness: The men's NCAA Tournament is single elimination, so one loss ends a team's championship hopes. Upsets can eliminate favorites, open up a region, and shift futures odds for the teams still competing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do college basketball futures work?
College basketball futures let you bet on a team to win the national championship or reach a specific tournament round. The bet settles when the outcome is decided, but you can place it months earlier, before the season starts or while the team is still competing. Once you bet, your odds stay fixed regardless of what happens before the tournament ends.
What's the difference between the Championship and Reach Semifinals markets?
A Championship bet wins only if your team takes the national title. A Reach Semifinals bet wins if your team advances to the national semifinals, regardless of whether it goes on to win the championship. Because a team needs fewer wins to reach the semifinals, this market generally offers shorter odds. Reach Regional Finals and Make Round of 16 work on the same principle, covering earlier stages of the tournament.
What are the odds to win the NCAA basketball championship?
The Championship tab above shows the best available odds for every Division I team to win the national title, alongside our model's probability for each team. Who is the favorite to win the men's NCAA basketball championship in 2027?
Michigan is the defending champion after winning the 2026 men's NCAA title. Championship odds will shift throughout the 2026-27 season, so the table above shows the current favorite and how the market rates the rest of the field.

Yes. You can view the top three favorites in each of our four futures markets for free: Championship, Reach Semifinals, Reach Regional Finals, and Make Round of 16. To see every team in every market, join Dimers Pro.
How are our college basketball futures probabilities calculated?
Our model simulates the rest of the season 10,000 times, including conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament, using team ratings that combine results with player-level strength. It then counts how often each team wins the title or reaches a given round. If a team wins the championship in 1,300 simulations, for example, its estimated title probability is 13%.
How accurate are our college basketball futures?
Our probabilities estimate how often a team reaches a particular outcome across 10,000 simulations; they don't predict exactly what will happen. A team with a 20% chance of winning the title, for example, fails to win in 80% of the model's simulations. Use the probabilities alongside the available odds to assess potential value, not as a guarantee that a team will win. Our model updates throughout the day, every day, as new information becomes available.
How often are our college basketball futures updated?
Our model updates throughout the day, every day of the season. Results, team form, and player availability can shift our probabilities, while sportsbook and prediction market prices move as new information enters the market.
