NRL Las Vegas 2026 rugby predictions, picks and parlay.
Rugby League returns to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for two blockbuster NRL games.

Australia’s premier rugby league competition, the NRL, heads to Sin City this weekend for its third straight stateside showcase, with two official Round 1 matchups at Allegiant Stadium.

The North Queensland Cowboys face the Newcastle Knights, followed by the St. George Illawarra Dragons taking on the Canterbury Bulldogs. The four squads are set to bring all the pace, power, and try-scoring action of a high-octane NRL double-header to Nevada.

For US bettors new to rugby league (not to be confused with rugby union), look at the sport as a faster, more free-flowing version of football—except touchdowns are called “tries,” the ball can only be passed backward or laterally, and kicking is part of the strategy. Like the NFL, games can swing from blowouts to shootouts to grind-it-out slugfests, giving plenty of betting angles for anyone looking to get in on the action.

Using NRL predictions from the Dimers model, we’ve built player prop picks, try-scorer predictions, and same-game parlay suggestions for both matchups, highlighting the best betting angles for North American fans—even if you’ve never seen a rugby league match before.

What is the NRL and why are games being played in Las Vegas?

The NRL is Australia’s top professional rugby league competition, known for high scoring, big hits, and elite athleticism. Each team has 13 players, and the objective is to ground the ball over the try line (worth four points)—similar to scoring a touchdown, except the ball must touch the grass while under player control.

These Vegas games are part of the NRL’s push into the US market, bringing four teams to Allegiant Stadium for a season-opening showcase aimed at American fans and bettors.

And it does make sense; NRL is essentially an all-running version of the NFL. The betting markets feel similar, too.

So if you enjoy NFL props, anytime TD scorers, and game parlays, NRL betting, and the sport itself, you will feel very familiar.

Who’s playing? Meet the four teams—and their NFL counterparts

North Queensland Cowboys

The Cowboys are an attack-first side that loves to move the ball and create space on the edges. They’re capable of scoring mesmerizing tries in bunches, making them a strong team for overs and anytime try-scorer bets. Expect pace, offloads (mid-tackle passes), and plenty of opportunities for outside backs to cash props.

North Queensland’s star players include fullback Scott Drinkwater (fullbacks are like a hybrid WR/RB who returns kicks and joins the offense as a roaming playmaker), five-eighth Tom Dearden (five-eighths are a kind of second quarterback who directs attacking plays and creates scoring chances), and prop Reuben Cotter (props are the power-running interior lineman equivalent who handles tough carries up the middle and sets the physical tone).

NFL equivalent: Arizona Cardinals—attack-first, opportunistic, streaky, exciting offense.

Newcastle Knights

The Knights bring star power and explosiveness, particularly through their spine (playmakers and fullback). They thrive in open games and can pile on points quickly, which makes them attractive for same-game parlays and multi-try scorer props.

Newcastle’s star players include center Bradman Best (centers are like physical WRs who break tackles in space), winger Dominic Young (wingers are speedy wide receiver-style threats who finish tries on the edges), five-eighth Dylan Brown, and fullback Kalyn Ponga.

NFL equivalent: Buffalo Bills—raw power, dynamic playmakers, capable of sudden scoring bursts.

St George Illawarra Dragons

The St. George Illawarra Dragons are a volatile, rebuilding side—capable of flashy offense when their key playmakers click, but also prone to inconsistency week-to-week. That unpredictability can create value in longshot try-scorer props and upset moneyline plays, especially early in the season.

St. George’s star names include fullback Clint Gutherson, hooker Damien Cook (hookers are like a dynamic slot receiver/third-down back—quick, elusive, and involved in most attacking sets), and center Valentine Holmes. These players can light it up in spurts when the Dragons find rhythm, making them intriguing dart plays on try props.

NFL equivalent: Miami Dolphins—high ceiling, explosive potential, but inconsistent.

Canterbury Bulldogs

The Canterbury Bulldogs lean heavily on defense, structure, and physicality—more like a smash-mouth NFL team that grinds down opponents with methodical drives and tough yards. They are also stacked this season.

Canterbury’s key players include five-eighth Matt Burton, center Stephen Crichton, lock Kurt Mann (locks are versatile forwards akin to a bruising T-E hybrid), and second-rower Viliame Kikau (second-rowers are a powerful edge threat, like a defensive end who flips to offense). This Bulldogs roster mixes elite playmakers with blue-collar finishers, making them arguably the most complete team in the Vegas showcase.

NFL equivalent: San Francisco 49ers—physical, complete, and difficult to beat.

Cowboys vs. Knights preview

This Cowboys vs. Knights clash is the marquee matchup of the double-header and it profiles as the higher-scoring game. Both teams like to play fast, spread the ball wide, and create mismatches on the edges—perfect conditions for try-scorer props.

Expect an up-tempo contest with multiple scoring opportunities. If you’re coming from an NFL betting mindset, this is the game to target for anytime try scorers and overs.

  • Moneyline: Cowboys win (67% probability)
  • Spread: Cowboys -3.5 to cover (57% probability)
  • Total: Over 42.5 (55% probability)
  • Anytime try scorer: Murray Taulagi (43.3% probability) and Dominic Young (44.4% probability)
  • Value try scorer: Bradman Best (29.2% probability)

Same-game parlay picks

  • Total: Over 42.5 points (55% probability)
  • Anytime try scorer: Dominic Young (44.4% probability)
  • Anytime try scorer: Murray Taulagi (43.3% probability)

This combo captures the expected game script: key wingers to score in a high-scoring shootout.

Dragons vs Bulldogs preview

The Dragons vs. Bulldogs matchup shapes very differently. The Bulldogs prefer a structured, defensive game plan, while the Dragons are still searching for consistency. That contrast could often see this entering blowout territory, and the data projections tell a similar story.

This game could be the “grind it out” game of the double-header; it could also be a lopsided affair in the Bulldogs’ favor. Field position and defense should play a big role, but with the conservative total at 38.5, there’s still value in backing the over, which has a 60% probability, with the Dimers model projecting a final score of 15-27 to the Bulldogs.

  • Moneyline: Bulldogs win (79% probability)
  • Spread: Bulldogs -8.5 to cover (57% probability)
  • Total: Over 38.5 (60% probability)
  • Anytime Try Scorer: Jacob Kiraz (44.3% probability), Marcelo Montoya (35.9% probability), and Christian Tuipulotu (34.6% probability)
  • Value try scorer: Valentine Holmes (30.2% probability)

Same-game parlay pick

  • Total: Over 39.5 total points (60% probability)
  • Anytime try scorer: Jacob Kiraz (44.3% probability)
  • Anytime try scorer: Marcelo Montoya (29.2% probability)

If the Bulldogs control the tempo, this type of parlay aligns with their physical style.

Best NRL Vegas parlay

For bettors looking to combine both matches into one higher-payout ticket:

  • Total: Cowboys vs. Knights over 42.5 points (55% probability)
  • Total: Dragons vs. Bulldogs over 38.5 points (60% probability)
  • Anytime try scorer: Dominic Young (44.4% probability)
  • Anytime try scorer: Jacob Kiraz (44.3% probability)

This type of cross-game parlay embraces the likely script: a high-scoring opener followed by a tighter, more defensive second game.

Final betting takeaways for NRL Las Vegas

  • Best Single Bet: Bulldogs vs Dragons Over 38.5 points (60% probability)
  • Best Try Scorer Prop: Dominic Young (44.4% probability)
  • Best Value Play: Valentine Holmes anytime try scorer (30.2% probability)

For North American bettors new to rugby league, the key to NRL game props is simple: wingers are like wide receivers, while fullbacks and centers are like running backs. These are the positions that get a lot of touches and higher chances of scoring tries.

Playmakers like five-eighths and halfbacks can also score, but the chances are like QBs scoring TDs. Some NRL playmakers have the wheels for scoring, but most of the time they’re directing traffic.

Each of these games has a strong probability of going over their respective game totals. The wingers, star centers, and marquee backs in both contests should find the try zone for two solid scoring contests.
