UK gambling sites must standardize deposit-limit settings from September 30, 2026.
Only gross deposit limits can use the “deposit limit” label and must use fixed periods.
Existing customers using other financial controls will not automatically switch to gross limits.
UK online casino players will notice changes to deposit-limit settings from September 30, 2026. New Gambling Commission requirements will standardize how these limits are presented and which controls operators can describe as a “deposit limit”.
The rules were initially scheduled to come into force at the end of June but were delayed by three months.

The new requirements are the second stage of updates to the Remote Technical Standards (RTS). The first changes arrived in October 2025 and focused on improving the financial management tools available to players.
From September 30, licensed gambling sites will need to make several changes:
Existing customers won't necessarily have their current settings changed; if a player already used another type of financial limit and the casino continues to support it, they can remain on that limit rather than being automatically moved to a gross deposit limit.
A gross deposit limit looks at how much money a player pays into their account during a specified period. Withdrawals arent deducted from that total.
For example, if someone deposits £100 and later withdraws £50, the amount counted toward the deposit limit remains £100. The calculation is based on money deposited rather tahn the difference between deposits and withdrawals.
There is also an important change to how the relevant time period is measured. A fixed period has a defined beginning and end. A weekly limit, for instance, could reset at the same point every week, while a monthly limit could restart at the beginning of each new month.
A rolling period works differently because the window moves with time, so instead of resetting at one predetermined point, it continually looks back over a specified length of time.
Starting September 30, gross deposit limits must use fixed periods, while other types of financial limits can still use rolling periods where applicable. These changes should not significantly affect casino bonuses or other promotions offered by the operator.
The second stage of the changes was originally scheduled for June 30 2026, however the Gambling Commission moved the implementation date to September 30 after operators raised concerns about the time needed to complete the necessary technical and compliance work.
The regulators aim is to make deposit-limit terminology more consistent across licensed gambling sites, so players should be able to understand more easily what a limit controls , while operators can continue offering other financial management options.
You can see more detailed requirements in the Gambling Commissions Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards material, including the RTS 12 annex.
If you hold accounts at UK online casinos, you don't need to make any immediate changes yourself, but it may be useful to review account settings after September 30.
In particular, the words “deposit limit” will have a more specific meaning. If that label appears, it should refer to a gross limit covering the total amount deposited during a fixed period.
Players already using another type of financial control won't automatically be moved to a gross deposit limit as long as their operator continues offering their existing option.
Checking the settings will therefore make it easier to see which type of limit is active, how the amount is calculated and when the relevant period resets.
