Why trade on Memphis vs. UNLV in Week 0

Memphis enters the season under a new head coach, Charles Huff, one of the sport's rising coaching names. Huff previously served as head coach at Marshall before moving to Southern Miss, and he has brought much of his Southern Miss defensive personnel with him to Memphis, along with running back Dallas Hayden, a transfer from Ohio State.

While the roster carries a number of new additions, many of the incoming players have already played together under Huff's staff at Southern Miss. A defining feature of Huff's defenses has been their ability to pressure the quarterback: in his two previous stops as a play-caller, his units ranked 17th nationally in sack rate.

That trait is central to this matchup.

UNLV's starting quarterback is Jackson Arnold, a transfer from Auburn.

Arnold struggled against pressure during his time in the SEC, taking 23 sacks in the conference last season and showing difficulty processing plays quickly when opposing front sevens were able to get him moving outside of structure. UNLV projects to lean heavily on its running game as a result.
