The 2026 FIFA World Cup final generated over 2 million bets at DraftKings Sportsbook, making it the most-bet soccer match in the operator's history.
DraftKings revealed the milestone as part of its post-tournament recap, highlighting record engagement across both its sportsbook and DraftKings Predictions platform during the biggest soccer event the company has ever handled.
More than 2 million bets on the World Cup final
According to DraftKings, the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina attracted over 2 million wagers, surpassing every previous soccer match offered by the sportsbook.
The record underscores the continued growth of soccer betting in the United States, particularly following the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
DraftKings Predictions also scores big
It was not just the sportsbook that benefited from the World Cup final.
DraftKings said its prediction market platform, DraftKings Predictions, recorded all-time highs for both trading volume and active customers during the match, which was won 1-0 by Spain.
The company also reported that Combo contracts accounted for 20% of all World Cup consumer trading volume on the platform.
World Cup betting surged from 2022
Across the entire tournament, DraftKings Sportsbook handled 650% more bets than it did during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The operator also reported a 245% increase in active Spanish-language soccer customers throughout the tournament, reflecting growing engagement among soccer fans in the U.S.
Notable World Cup betting trends
DraftKings also shared other insights from the tournament:
- Argentina's Lionel Messi was the most bet-on player. He finished with eight goals, including a group-stage hat-trick against Algeria.
- The United States was the team most bet on, advancing to the round of 16 before falling to Belgium.
A landmark tournament for soccer betting
The record-breaking World Cup final capped DraftKings' biggest soccer tournament to date, with the company reporting unprecedented activity across both traditional sportsbook betting and prediction markets.
As soccer's popularity continues to grow in North America, the World Cup final's more than 2 million bets provide another indication of the sport's increasing importance to U.S. sportsbooks.
