UMass vs. Rutgers: Dimers Pro goes 3-for-3 in the Minutemen's 37-21 upset
All three Dimers Pro bets landed in UMass' stunning 37-21 upset of Rutgers, led by a Best Bet on Over 51.5 with a 5.9% edge.

College football is back, and UMass wasted little time tearing up the expected script.
Heading into Thursday night's matchup, UMass vs. Rutgers looked like one of the biggest mismatches on the Week 1 college football schedule. Rutgers closed as a 31-point favorite, while UMass was available at +3000 to win outright.
The numbers supported the market's view. UMass went 0-12 last season, entered the game on a 16-game losing streak, and had never beaten a power-conference opponent during its time at the FBS level.
But consensus and value are not the same thing.
The Dimers Pro College Football predictions model identified value on all three positions it recommended for the game: UMass +31.0, UMass on the moneyline, and Over 51.5.
Then UMass delivered one of the biggest upsets of the opening weekend, beating Rutgers 37-21.
Three bets. Three winners.
The irony? UMass head coach Joe Harasymiak was previously the Rutgers' defensive coordinator.
UMass covered +31.0 with room to spare, won outright at +3000, and combined with Rutgers for 58 points to send the Over past 51.5.
Over 51.5 was the Best Bet, with a 5.9% edge
The best College Football bet on the card was the Over.
Dimers Pro projected the Over 51.5 to hit 58.8% of the time, compared with an implied probability of roughly 52.8% at the best available market price. That difference created a 5.9% edge.
It was also the only bet on the card to trigger both of Dimers Pro's Signals: Sweet Spot, which identifies an edge range and bet type that has historically returned a 2.9% ROI across 142 similar bets, and High Edge, which highlights positions with a particularly strong advantage against the best available price.
The game finished with 58 points, clearing the total by 6.5.
UMass scored more against Rutgers than in any game last season
Rutgers scoring 21 points was not the surprising part.
UMass putting up 37 was.
The Minutemen scored 11 more points than they managed in any game last season and produced one of their most efficient offensive performances in recent memory.
After finishing last in the FBS at 3.8 yards per play in 2025, UMass averaged 6.3 yards per play against Rutgers. That’s a dramatic turnaround against a power-conference opponent.
Quarterback William "Pop" Watson III threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns, with all three scoring passes coming in the first half. Curtis Kimmons IV added 78 rushing yards and a touchdown as UMass finished with 397 total yards and no turnovers.
Rutgers still generated 349 yards of offense, but the Scarlet Knights converted just three of 11 third-down attempts and turned the ball over four times, including three interceptions by Dylan Lonergan.
Dylan Lonergan's third interception, with 4:35 remaining, helped set up the touchdown that sealed the 37-21 result.
Both teams played their part in getting the Over home.
Six books priced the moneyline, and one offered UMass at +3000
The UMass moneyline was never the most likely outcome.
It was the value side.
Dimers Pro gave UMass a 3.6% chance of winning, meaning Rutgers was still projected to win the matchup the overwhelming majority of the time. But the +3000 price implied a lower win probability than Dimers Pro's 3.6% projection, creating value on UMass.
That is the difference between predicting what is most likely to happen and identifying a price worth betting.
UMass won outright, and the +3000 moneyline cashed.
Dimers Pro compares odds across sportsbooks and surfaces the best available price rather than simply evaluating the number at a single book. For this game, that meant -112 on Over 51.5 and +3000 on the UMass moneyline, with six sportsbooks offering a price on the moneyline market.
Price shopping might not feel significant on a single Thursday night in September. Over the course of an entire college football season, consistently getting the best available number can have a meaningful impact on long-term results.
More CFB value in Week 1
Going 3-for-3 in a single game is not a meaningful sample size on its own.
What matters is the process behind the bets.
UMass-Rutgers was just one of Thursday's openers, with the rest of the Week 1 college football slate still to come.
