The World Cup is over. See exactly where the Dimers model returned a profit over the course of the tournament.

World Cup predictions: Spain celebrate.
We recap a profitable World Cup betting with the Dimers model.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially in the books.

After more than a month of matches, Spain outlasted Argentina 1-0 in extra time at MetLife Stadium to claim La Roja's second World Cup title. It was a fitting end to a tournament that expanded to 48 teams for the first time, spanned three host countries, and generated more betting markets than any soccer event in history.

For Dimers, it was also the third World Cup we've covered with our predictive models and, by the numbers, it's our most successful yet. Bettors who leaned on Dimers Pro's pre-match picks and pre-tournament futures value had a genuine, data-backed edge from the first match of the group stage all the way through the final.

Now, with the World Cup break over, MLS is back, and we are celebrating the occasion by dropping the paywall on all of our MLS news content, giving users completely free access to insights that are normally exclusive to Dimers Pro.

But first, let's see how the Dimers model was dialed in for the World Cup.

Dimers' pre-match model

Dimers Pro's World Cup predictions returned a substantial profit.

Our predictions are powered by a statistical model that simulates every single match using team performance data, expected goals, opponent strength, projected lineups, and more. From these simulations, we calculate probabilities for a wide range of betting markets. When our predicted probability is higher than the probability implied by the odds, that's an edge.

Anything clearing a 2.5% edge, meaning Dimers' probability estimate exceeded what the odds implied by at least 2.5%, is flagged as a best bet.

Below are the three markets that returned a profit for bets carrying at least a 2.5% edge:

MarketBetsWinsStrike RateROI
Moneyline (H2H)351131.4%+45.9%
Total Goals (Over/Under)482450.0%+5.7%
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)311548.4%+7.1%

A big takeaway from these numbers is that the Dimers model accurately predicted several upsets, returning a big ROI on 11 winners out of 35 moneyline bets and identifying when a team was undervalued.

Not every market returned a profit. Bets in the "Win to Nil" and "Double Chance" markets both returned negative ROI; however, the volume of those markets was substantially lower, with just nine total bets.

Overall, as an example, a flat stake of $100 on every single pre-match bet with at least a 2.5% edge would have returned $1,748 for a total ROI of 14.2%.

World Cup futures

In addition to pre-match predictions, all major sports on Dimers have futures predictions, and our World Cup futures were no exception.

Before the tournament began, we ran simulations for each team to advance to each stage of the tournament, including group winners, knockout rounds, semifinal berths, and the outright title, and we compared those probabilities to the odds on the board.

Out of the 48 competing nations, that process surfaced 38 bets with a positive pre-tournament edge.

Early in the tournament, the market started catching up to what the model saw first: 25 of those 38 edges had already shortened in bettors' favor after just one group-stage match apiece.

Mexico, Switzerland, and Canada were all underdogs to reach the Round of 16 when Dimers flagged them (+125, +110, and +175, respectively); by Matchday 1's end, all three had flipped to favorites in that same market.

Spain, meanwhile, was tabbed as the tournament's most likely champion before a ball was kicked at 18.7%, with Argentina as our best value play. Those teams ultimately faced off in the final.

With the tournament completed, here's precisely how those 38 pre-tournament bets resulted:

BetsWinsLossesAmount StakedProfitROI
381820$3,800.00+$777.1020.5%

Because most of these winners paid out at plus-money odds, even a sub-.500 record on the futures bets returned a substantial profit. It's the same method we use to find pre-match value, simply on a longer-term basis.

Player props

Overall, player props returned a negative ROI over the tournament. Pre-match props were largely concentrated on the Player Shots market. Out of 78 total tournament props, 66 of them came from this market, with a hit rate of 16.7%.

Still, due to the strong success of both the pre-match model and futures values, a hypothetical bettor who placed a wager on every single edge identified by our model still saw a positive return on the tournament.

It's worth noting that many of these props came at long odds on defensive players, often at odds of +1000 or longer, so a reasonable wagering plan would have bet these at a lower unit size, offsetting some of the losses as compared to pre-match and futures returns.

Applying these models to MLS

The World Cup pulled in more first-time soccer bettors than any tournament before it, and plenty of that new audience will see something familiar when they explore the MLS insights on Dimers.

The same modeling approach that shaped Dimers' World Cup coverage, from win-draw-loss probabilities and total-goals lines to correct-score breakdowns and edge-based best bets, already powers our MLS predictions.

MLS returned from its World Cup break on Thursday, July 16, and the league may never have had a bigger built-in audience than it does right now, coming off a USA run to the Round of 16.
