Four bets to make in the WNBA on Wednesday, July 29
It's the first game back from the break for the Wings, Dream, Valkyries and Mercury tonight - let's see who our model likes to start the second half with a big night.
Bet: Azzi Fudd 3+ threes (+148 on FanDuel)
Game: Dream vs. Wings
Time: 8:00 PM ET
This one cashed for us on the night before the break and we're going back to the rookie tonight.
Azzi Fudd hit this in five straight games heading into the All-Star Break, and in 7 of her last 10.
She's the team's top-projected three-point shooter by our model at 2.2 threes against an Atlanta Dream that while improved, still ranks dead last in opponent 3PT% this season.
Fudd's 38.7% shooting from beyond the arc ranks 5th in the league among players attempting at least 5 shots per game, and 11 starters have hit this against the Dream over their past 10 games.
Bet: Angel Reese 12+ rebounds (-115 on Fanatics)
Game: Dream vs. Wings
Time: 8:00 PM ET
This aligns well with our model's top bet on the board, which if you're looking for value, is one worth a look. That bet is for the Wings' Jessica Shepard to go under her 11.5 boards line, a rare fade on one this league's best rebounders, but she's up against the team that crashes glass better than any in the WNBA.
Angel Reese is the night's top-projected rebounder at 11.5 boards, a mark she cleared in 6 of 10 games before the break, leaving her final game early due to a knee injury in the game, but she carries no designation tonight.
Behind Shepard, no one the Wings even averages 5 rebounds per game this season so if we're fading Shepard, logically the biggest beneficiary would be on Atlanta's side.
Reese might be worth a look up to some plus-money alternates, hitting 13+ in three of the five games she played before leaving early in her last game before the break, and hit 16+ vs. the Wings in one of their matchups earlier this season.
Bet: Kayla Thornton 2+ threes (+105 on Fanatics)
Game: Valkyries vs. Mercury
Time: 10:00 PM ET
This one is about as straightforward as it gets.
We've got the second-worst three-point defense in the WNBA, the Valkyries' second-best three-point shooter and our model's highest three-point projection for Golden State.
Kayla Thornton puts up the second-most attempts from three for Golden State at 5.2 per game, hitting at 34.4%. Tonight, she's at 1.8 threes from our model, putting her right in range of the plus-money value for 2+.
Phoenix allows opponents to shoot at 37.0% from beyond the arc, allowing 9.8 threes per game, most in the league. Thornton is pretty much all or nothing -she's either clearing this or hitting 0 threes. Over her past 10 games, she's hit this in 6 of them, with 3+ in 3 of those games. Every miss saw her hit 0, but it's worth noting three of those saw her play reduced minutes, while her projections tonight suggest a full complement of playing time.
Bet: Kahleah Copper 4+ rebounds (+116 on FanDuel)
Game: Valkyries vs. Mercury
Time: 10:00 PM ET
This isn't the usual bet we'd target on Kahleah Copper, one of the league's premier scorers, but a matchup with the top defensive unit in the WNBA has us looking elsewhere.
Golden State allows the fewest points per game, points in the paint and assists per game, all things that don't point towards a big offensive night for the Mercury, who already funnel their offensive output through Copper.
Still, they'll try and for all of Golden State's defensive prowess, they rank 11th in opponent rebounds, with their top rebounders both averaging just 5.0 boards per game.
Copper projects for 3.6 tonight, just shy of a mark she's hit in 9 of her last 15 games.
