2026 Rocket Classic preview

  • Date: July 30-August 2, 2026
  • Location: Detroit, MI
  • Course: Detroit Golf Club (North Course)
  • Par: 70 / 7,328 yards

The PGA TOUR returns to Detroit Golf Club for its first tournament test since a major overhaul transformed the course in the offseason.

Historically one of the friendliest stops on TOUR, a stock par 72, the North Course has now been replaced by a tougher, more demanding par 70. The changes to the course are prevalent and it will play much like a new venue for the majority of this field.

The most notable changes include former par 5 holes No. 7 and 17 playing as par 4s, a reduction to just two Par 5s (holes No. 4 and 14), the elimination of the lone water hazard and a mild increase in bunkers from 84 to 91. Elevated greens will make sticking the landing all the mort crucial.

Even with the changes, driving distance figures to remain a major factor. The fairways are narrow, but missing them hasn't historically carried a steep penalty, and players hit driver at one of the highest rates on TOUR, so bombers should still have an edge off the tee.

That said, with firmer, elevated, harder-to-hit greens in play, approach play and around-the-green skill are likely to matter more than they have in past years at Detroit, while putting should carry slightly less weight than usual, albeit still important.

Now, let's dig into the value!

2026 Rocket Classic best bets

There's a lot of value in this event with some of the elite golfers taking the weekend off, yet a large field and favorable odds on some upper-tier golfers in good form.

We'll highlight a handful of these golfers below, but encourage all users to check out the full Rocket Classic predictions for every possible edge.

Dimers' best bet: Si Woo Kim to win (+2200 on BetMGM)

Win probability: 6.6%

Dimers' fair odds: +1415 or above

Fifth on TOUR in total strokes gained this season and second in the field this week over the summer months, Si Woo Kim is the perfect balance of probability and edge.

His short game has finally caught up to his ball-striking, producing personal-best finishes at the Scottish Open (T9) and The Open (T6), giving him 10 top-10s on the year, double his previous career high.

He's also pacing the TOUR with 54 rounds in the 60s, making him a logical fit for a course that will reward consistent ball-striking, owning just two finishes outside the Top 10 in his past six events.

Russell Henley to win (+2700 on BetRivers)

Win probability: 5.3%

Dimers' fair odds: +1785 and above

The world No. 5 brings the TOUR's most accurate driving to a course that demands precision, and backs it up with the fourth-best scrambling numbers on TOUR.

Henley won just five events ago with four straight rounds under 70, and has excelled against some loaded fields this year, making this one an easier test than he usually faces.

He already has a win and five top-10s this season, and has stayed in form with a T9 finish at The Open in his last start. It's hard to find flaws in his game outside driving distance, so while he won't have the bombing ability many others will have here, he can clean up around the green better than most.

J.J. Spaun to win (+3500 on BetMGM)

Win probability: 4.0%

Dimers' fair odds: +2400 and above

After a slow start, J.J. Spaun has been a model of consistency outside the majors, playing every weekend since mid-April and picking up his second career win at the Valero Texas Open.

His recent finishes in the 40s came on links courses and pre-renovations, Detroit Golf Club has been a personal stronghold — he's never missed a cut in six career visits, with a worst finish of T33 and a T10 in his last appearance in 2024.

Dimers' longshots and sleepers

These next two golfers are deep cuts with very small win probabilities, yet they're in good form, and strong finishes down the stretch could thrust them into the FedExCup all top 70 for the playoffs.

Most importantly, they each present a little value based on our fair odds. Top 10 and Top 5 plays make alternative bets for less risk than the outright winner while still betting on their upside.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout to win (+10000 on bet365)

Win probability: 1.0%

Dimers' fair odds: +9900 and above

On a streak of six-straight made cuts, including his third-best finish of the year (T12, John Deere Classic), the South African is pushing for the Top 70 in the FedExCup.

What he lacks in power off the tee, he makes up for in nearly every other category, good enough to rank Top 25 on TOUR in strokes gained., and ranking third in bogey avoidance.

Emiliano Grillo to win (+11500 on DraftKings)

Win probability: 0.9%

Dimers' fair odds: +11000 and above

The Argentine has quietly caught fire, playing the weekend in six straight with top-25s in three of his last four, including a season-best-tying T7 at the 3M Open built on efficient ball-striking.

He's sitting 103rd in the FedExCup rankings and will need some big results over the final two events to crack the top 70 and he will be playing hard.

Grillo favors accuracy over power, but could find himself in the mix if the same game as last week shows up.
