Why trade on Syracuse vs. North Carolina in Week 8

Syracuse heads to Kenan Stadium on Saturday night to face a North Carolina team that has gone the other way in conference play, and the Tar Heels look the part right now. They’ve covered the pregame spread in three straight games, and that run includes last week’s rivalry win over Duke.

Syracuse’s offense has struggled to string drives together.

It leans on big plays, taking deep shots and trying to break long gains, and that has often worked. The problem is the opponent. North Carolina’s defense ranks third in the nation at preventing explosive plays, so the one thing this Syracuse offense does well is the thing the Tar Heels shut down best.

A one-dimensional offense against a team playing its best football makes this a tough matchup for the visitors, and the Dimers model projects North Carolina to win 29-18.

Week 8 Trade of the Day: North Carolina -8.5 vs. Syracuse

  • Dimers probability: 51.2%
  • Polymarket trading price: 48%
  • Edge on Polymarket: 3.2%

Sportsbooks have North Carolina at -9.5, and on Polymarket the Tar Heels are a full point cheaper at -8.5.

Our model gives North Carolina a 51.2% chance of covering 8.5 points, and on Polymarket the Tar Heels are trading at just 48% to do so, so we have a 3.2% edge over the market price.

The model projects an 11-point win, North Carolina has a 4-2 record ATS, and its defense takes away the big plays Syracuse relies on. That makes North Carolina -8.5 our trade of the week.
