Five bets to make in the WNBA on Tuesday, July 28
Tonight's slate is loaded with star players and great matchups; can we keep things rolling after last week's sweep?
Bet: Michelle Onyenwere 2+ threes (+138 on FanDuel)
Game: Mystics vs. Sun
Time: 7:30 PM ET
First up, we're going to what might be the lowest-scoring game of the night, but with a premier matchup for this prop and Michelle Onyenwere of the Mystics.
The Sun sit at the bottom of the WNBA standings and are bottom-three in defending beyond the arc, allowing opponents to shoot 35.6% from three.
You have to scroll a bit down our projections, but Onyenwere is the top-projected three-point shooter in this game at 1.6 threes, and is the most accurate on the team by a significant margin, hitting 43.2% of her shots on 3.4 attempts per game.
She was on a nice roll before the break, hitting 2+ in 4 of her last 5, and she's gone 4-4 and 0-2 from deep against Connecticut this year. As an accurate shooter, we shouldn't need too much volume, either.
Bet: Natasha Howard over 6.5 rebounds (-108 on FanDuel)
Game: Lynx vs. Tempo
Time: 8:00 PM ET
With Naphessa Collier on the mend, Natasha Howard led the Lynx in rebounds this season at 8.0 per game, good enough for 12th in the league. 'Phee is back, and immediately grabbed 10 boards to Howard's 5 in her first game, but that doesn't mean Howard's impact is over.
Projected for 7.4 tonight, we like Howard to go over her line at a 55.1% probability against a Toronto Tempo team that ranks second-to-last in rebounds grabbed per game and ranks 9th in offensive rebounds secured - a bad matchup against a Minnesota team with the lowest opponent FG% in the league.
Additionally, the Tempo's top rebounder this season, Isabelle Harrison, is listed as questionable with a knee injury. Behind her, no one averaged even 5 boards per game on this team.
This game also has a 15.5-point spread, projecting for a one-sided affair in which Minnesota controls the glass and presents both Collier and Howard with plenty of rebound chances.
Bet: Caitlin Clark 3+ threes (+108 on FanDuel)
Game: Fever vs. Storm
Time: 9:30 PM ET
This is the biggest discrepancy between our projection and the target line, so we won't blame you if you want to side purely with the Dimers data.
Caitlin Clark made WNBA history vs. the Storm just before the break, recording the league's first-ever 45-point, 10-assist game, along with 6 threes made.
Tonight, she's projected for 2.1 threes, but compared to Kelsey Mitchell at 2.3 and -180, Clark is the more favorable bet. She hit 3+ in three straight before her brief injury absence, then in 2 of her last 3 games before the break. She stayed hot in the All-Star game with 5 threes for good measure.
The Storm have been statistically the league's best three-point defense this year, but have hit a skid lately. Ranking second-to-last in the WNBA and allowing five players to cash this over their past four games before the break, notably allowing 9 threes combined to Clark and Kelsey Mitchell in that game and 9 threes to Kayla McBride over their past two matchups leading into the break.
Clark exploited every weakness of this dead-last team last week, and she'll look to lead the Fever coming out hot from the break.
Bet: A'ja Wilson 28+ points (+100 on Fanatics)
Game: Aces vs. Fire
Time: 10:00 PM ET
If you're up for it, it's ladder time in Vegas tonight, but you don't have to get that adventurous to take advantage of some value and a good matchup.
A'ja Wilson projects for 35.3 points tonight, with a 64.2% probability of clearing her line of 27.5, which can be had for even money at Fanatics and close to it on other books. 30+ is well within a play as well for some longer odds at around +140.
Wilson is the league's number one scorer, reigning MVP and has looked every bit the part since returning from a brief injury absence, bookending her four missed game with 30-point outings, including against this Fire team in her first game back (and 32 vs. them in their first meeting), and dropping 38 on the last night before the break.
Portland is one of three teams allowing over 90 points per game to opponents with no answer for Wilson so far this season.
Bet: Sabrina Ionescu 20+ points (+125 on FanDuel)
Game: Sparks vs. Liberty
Time: 10:00 PM ET
For our final bet of the night, we're looking at a premier shooter against the worst scoring defense in the league.
You can go one point lower on Sabrina Ionescu's line and still get even money at 18.5, but her form heading into the All-Star Break, as well as Dimers' high probability of 56.8% to the over, should make you confident in the 20+.
Ionescu missed basically the first month of the season, and took a couple weeks to find her flow once returning, but she's got it now. In her past 8 games, she's hit 20+ five times, including four games of 25+ points.
Her shot volume is up, she's dialed in from three and her projection of 21.8 points tonight sets her up well against an L.A. team ranked dead last in scoring defense.
